NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Miyagino-ku, Sendai-shi, Miyagi) announces the following information on the usage of Expressway in the Tohoku region managed by the Company during the Golden Week period [2024 Friday, April 26 to 2024 Monday, May 6 (11 days)].
Traffic volume
- The average daily traffic volume in the Tohoku region was 20,800 vehicles per day, approximately 98% compared to the same period in 2023.
- Traffic volumes peaked on Friday, May 3rd on Out-bound lanes and Sunday, May 5th on In-bound lanes.
Congestion
- There were seven traffic jams of 5km or more in Out-bound direction (one less than the previous year), two in the In-bound direction (two more than the previous year) and one more than the previous year.
- The longest traffic jam was 15.0 km long and occurred on Friday, May 3rd on Tohoku Expressway (Out-bound) starting near Fukushima TN. This traffic jam was caused by an accident.
