East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.
Tohoku Regional Head Office
NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) E4 We are pleased to announce that a demonstration experiment of "short-term parking spaces" has begun on Out-bound, March 1, 2024 at the Adatara Service Area (hereinafter "SA") and Kunimi SA on Tohoku Expressway (hereinafter "Tohoku Expressway"), both on the Out-bound lane.
The "short-term parking bays" aim to ensure that drivers of large vehicles have a more reliable opportunity to rest by designating some of the large vehicle parking bays (5 spaces at both Adatara SA (Out-bound) and Kunimi SA (Out-bound)) as parking bays for 60 minutes or less. In this demonstration experiment, "short-term parking bays" will be installed at rest facilities where many large vehicles are unable to park and leave the SA/PA (PA: parking area) due to the presence of vehicles parked for long periods of time, and the experiment will verify changes in rest opportunities, congestion at surrounding rest facilities, and effective installation locations. Customers using Adatara SA (Out-bound) and Kunimi SA (Out-bound) are asked to follow the guide signs in the parking lots and use the parking lots appropriately.
1. Maintenance status of Adatara SA Out-bound line and Kunimi SA Out-bound line "Short-time limited parking space"
Information signs (see Figure 1) have been installed in the parking lot to guide you to the location of the short-term parking spaces. In addition, road markings (see Figure 2) have been placed to make it clear that the parking spaces are limited to short-term parking spaces.
2. Request for use
Customers using the "short-term parking spaces" are asked to follow the information signs and road markings inside the rest facility and leave within 60 minutes after parking.
Additionally, if you will be parking for more than 60 minutes, please use a parking space other than the short-term parking spaces.
3. Background to the introduction of “short-term parking spaces”
NEXCO EAST, NEXCO CENTRAL, and NEXCO WEST are working to expand the number of parking spaces in their SAs and PAs. However, in SA/PA areas, mainly in urban areas, there is a large proportion of vehicles parked for long periods of time, and the area remains congested. As a result, some vehicles are leaving SA/PA without being able to park, and it is thought that they are missing out on a much-needed opportunity to take a break.
By establishing "short-term parking spaces," we will ensure that more vehicles have the opportunity to park reliably.
In addition to Adachi Tara SA (Out-bound) and Kunimi SA (Out-bound), which will begin operation within NEXCO EAST jurisdiction, Kamikawachi SA (In-bound) will begin operations on November 28, 2020, and Hasuda SA (In-bound) will begin operations in Reiwa 5. It started operation on December 21st.
