NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office Congestion prediction and countermeasures due to traffic concentration on Expressway in the Tohoku region during the year-end and New Year period [Dec. 22, 2011 (Thurs.)-January 4, 2012 (Wed.) 14 days] Has been compiled.

Please use the traffic congestion prediction information and make a leisurely travel plan such as avoiding traffic congestion by decentralizing the use of Expressway before and after the day or time when traffic congestion is predicted.

Due to amendment of laws and regulations, Expressway measures in the Tohoku region from December 1 will be based on the current sections covered by the free measures to support areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tourism recovery. Etc. will be reviewed. (Tuesday, January 3, 2012 is the target day for free promotion of tourism promotion)

In addition, for those who have been evacuated from a municipality within the target area of the disaster area support to a municipality outside the target area, after checking the evacuation status, the use of the evacuation area and the area within the disaster area support will be free of charge. ..

1 Congestion prediction

[Regarding traffic congestion prediction on the main line]

During the year-end and New Year holidays of this year, Due to free Expressway measures in the Tohoku region, Tohoku Expressway is 10km or more congestion, etc., 11 times (Out-bound line 5 times, In-bound line 6 times) occurred, the congestion beyond this inner 30km, in Fukushima prefecture, In-bound once a month 2 day line (month) I expect it to happen. During the year-end and New Year period of last year [13 days from December 23, 2010 (Thursday) to January 4, 2011 (Tuesday)], traffic congestion of 10 km or more has not occurred.

4 Request from NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office

-Request by Tohoku region free measure-

  • Unnecessary congestion on the main line and congestion at toll gates may occur due to the free measures. Please make a comfortable travel plan before going out.
  • Free measures from December,
    ・When using ETC, insert the ETC card into the vehicle-mounted device and pass through the toll gate.
    ・If you are using other than ETC, be sure to stop at the toll gate and hand the pass ticket to the staff.
  • ETC use is also free of charge for disaster relief support.
    Please use ETC so that you can pass through the toll gate smoothly.
  • If you are using the free measures to support evacuees, prepare in advance documents such as affliction/disaster certificate, ID card such as driver's license, evacuation destination such as a copy of resident's card, documents to confirm evacuation source and pass ticket, Please give it to the staff

~Request for safe driving on winter road~

  • For Expressway the Tohoku region in winter, make sure to keep winter equipment such as studless tires in a sufficient distance to ensure safe driving.
  • Be sure to decelerate before the curve or JCT, and be careful not to get too fast!
  • If you notice a traffic jam ahead, please turn on the hazard lamp and cooperate with the following car to prevent a rear-end collision accident.

  • Please check the vehicle and fix the cargo before departure.
