NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Aoba-ku, Sendai City) manages Tohoku Expressway at the intersection of General Route 294 (Toyochi River, Shirakawa City, Fukushima Prefecture) Tohoku Expressway. It was discovered that a part of the joint material of the io structure had fallen on the national highway.
Currently, no injuries or damage to national roads have been confirmed.
Also, it does not affect the safety of Tohoku Expressway.
We will work to prevent recurrence so that similar events will not occur in the future.

2 What was falling
Joint material that fills the gaps between structures: Asphalt mixed with fibers such as wood to form a plate
Maximum about 20 cm x about 60 cm x about 2 cm Weight approx. 3 kg (fall height 4.5 m)
3 Process until falling confirmation
At 9:30 am on Friday, October 15, a patrol officer of the Fukushima Prefectural South Construction Office who was patroling General National Route 294 discovered and reported to our Koriyama Management Office. Our employee confirmed that the jointing material had dropped on site and collected it.

5 Inspection history of the relevant part
Visual inspection September 2, 2010 It was confirmed that there were no abnormalities.
6 Response status
We banned traffic on National Highway 294, conducted an emergency inspection, removed items that could fall, and confirmed the safety before releasing the regulations.
We will carry out an emergency inspection of the box culvert that intersects with the Expressway within the Tohoku Regional Head Office.
