- About arrest of illegal passers-by (fraud charges)
December 4, 2006
Miyagi Prefectural Road Corporation
East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.
Tohoku Regional Head Office
Today (December 4), two illegal passers who exchanged the toll ticket received at the entrance of the Expressway on the way and deceived the staff at the exit toll gate to avoid paying the original toll It was announced by the prefectural police that he was arrested on charges of fraud.
This case is different from the interchange (IC) that actually flowed in by exchanging the pass ticket received by the suspect at the entrance of the Expressway with the person traveling in the opposite direction. Because he deceived the staff at the toll gate and illegally escaped the toll that he/she originally paid, he consulted with Miyagi Prefectural Road Corporation and NEXCO EAST to the Miyagi Prefectural Police, and he was arrested. This is the first case of arrest due to fraudulent charges used.
We believe that the arrest of a suspect who has committed malicious and illegal traffic will ensure fairness in the payment of charges and prevent unauthorized traffic.
Miyagi Prefectural Road Corporation and NEXCO EAST have always taken the stance of "tolerating unauthorized traffic" so as not to jeopardize customers' trust in the toll road business. We will continue to take a resolute attitude toward illegal traffic and will actively cooperate with police investigations to tackle illegal traffic.
For illegal tolls by the suspect, we will add a surcharge (twice the amount exempted) to the illegally exempted toll and charge three times the illegally exempted toll.
