On Thursday, October 24th, NEXCO EAST Joetsu Management Office (Joetsu City) will be creating a flower bed with students from Takada Agricultural High School on the Out-bound lane of the E8 Hokuriku Expressway at Nadachitanihama Service Area (SA).
Now in its 19th year, this initiative is being carried out as part of the "Flower and Greenery for Peaceful Highway Garden® Project," which aims to promote regional cooperation and create spaces where customers can feel refreshed and more comfortable at SAs by planting trees and flowers.

Approximately 430 peony seedlings grown by students from Takada Agricultural High School will be planted in flower beds and planters in a layout designed by the students.

What is the "Flowers and Greenery Peaceful Highway Garden® Project"?

This project aims to transform rest facilities and parks into easy-to-use, comfortable spaces, while also developing "Highway Gardens®" that aim to create a unique local atmosphere and foster cooperation with the local community, thereby providing customers with an even more relaxing and soothing space.
NEXCO EAST Niigata Regional Head Office is working to cooperate with the local community and is implementing this project at five locations: Nakadachiyahama SA (Out-bound), Yoneyama SA (In-bound and Out-bound lanes), Kurosaki PA (Out-bound) on the Hokuriku Expressway, and Echigo Kawaguchi SA (Out-bound) on Kan-Etsu Expressway Expressway.

The NEXCO EAST Group has positioned the period from 2021 to 2025 as "a period that contributes to the achievement of the SDGs and transforms into a new future society," and is making various efforts.
The "Flower and Green Peace Highway Garden Project" is a project that plays a part in cooperation with local educational institutions, support for local education, and community development that allows people to continue living, and as an activity that includes the meaning of promoting greening, SDGs. We believe that it will contribute to the goals of 4, 11, 15, and 17.
