NEXCO EAST Niigata Regional Head Office (Chuo Ward, Niigata City) will be installing winter tires for the first time this winter on service areas (SA) and parking areas (PA) on four Expressway in Niigata Prefecture on Tuesday, November 14th. As a result, the overall rate of winter tire installation was 59%, and the overall rate of non-installation of winter tires was 41%.
This survey was conducted to encourage early replacement of winter tires and to educate people about safe driving on winter roads. If you do not have winter tires installed yet, please change to winter tires as soon as possible and bring chains. Also, please drive safely when using Expressway.

1. 1. Outline of winter tire installation rate survey

Survey method

• Surveyor visually confirms the tire type of the vehicle parked in the SA / PA surveyed
• Investigate about 50 units at one location
• Large vehicles are oversized vehicles, large vehicles, medium-sized vehicles, and small vehicles are regular vehicles and light vehicles classified by charge type.

3. Three points for driving safely Expressway in winter

1. Early winter equipment (installation of winter tires, carrying chains)
   • Winter is almost here. Please change to winter tires as soon as possible.
   • Make sure that the tread depth of your winter tires is no more than 50% worn down when new.
   • During heavy snowfall, chains may be required even on winter tires. Please be sure to carry a chain.
2. Drive safely and reduce your speed (especially in early winter!)
   • Do not perform operations with the word ``sudden'' such as ``sudden steering,'' ``sudden acceleration,'' or ``sudden braking.''
     Please drive slowly and safely, keeping a sufficient distance between vehicles.
   • In particular, at the beginning of winter, drivers tend to be more prone to accidents as their sense of driving on snowy roads has not yet recovered.
3. Frequently gathering information before and during your outing
   • The weather on Expressway in winter can change rapidly, and even if it's sunny at your departure point, it may be snowing at your destination or passing point.
     Please check road and weather information frequently before going out or while taking a break in the service area.
   • "Drive Traffic (DraTra)" provides real-time traffic information and information on Expressway road conditions (snowy road live camera).
