NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) conducted a second winter tire wearing condition survey this year at a rest facility in the jurisdiction in the middle of January with the aim of raising awareness of safe driving on snowy roads. did.
The winter tire installation rate was 73.3% for small cars, 95.0% for large cars, and 78.8% for all car models. Compared to the previous survey (conducted in mid-December), we can see an increase in winter tire installation rates for both small and large vehicles. Especially for small cars, we found that the installation rate increased significantly from 51.8% to 73.3%.
On snowy / frozen roads, summer tires cause more accidents than winter tires.
Even in the Tokyo metropolitan area, where it normally does not snow, road surface freezing and snowfall can occur. In January 2018, heavy snowfall occurred in a wide area centering on the Tokyo metropolitan area, and Expressway within the jurisdiction caused road closures and slip accidents.
Running on summer tires on snowy or frozen roads is extremely dangerous, so please wear winter tires or carry a tire chain and drive safely.
Also, During unusual heavy snowfall, such as heavy snowfall special warnings and emergency announcements about heavy snowfall, we may impose "chain regulations" that prevent us from running without a chain even with winter tires.
On winter Expressway, be sure to carry tire chains in case of emergency, and refrain from going out unnecessarily and urgently when such heavy snowfall is expected in advance.
