Seismic retrofitting of the Kan-Etsu Expressway Katashina River Bridge
Katashinagawa Bridge is a steel truss bridge with a bridge length of approximately 1,034m, which was opened in 1960, and is a large-scale bridge with many piers having a height of 60m or more. The steel truss type has a complicated behavior during an earthquake, and requires advanced knowledge and technology for evaluating the safety of bridges against earthquake action. For this reason, we have established the Kan-Etsu Expressway Katashina River Bridge Reinforcement Review Committee, which conducts analysis, etc. according to the structural characteristics, with the guidance of Professor Hitoshi Yamada, Yokohama National University, to implement seismic reinforcement.

Making service areas disaster prevention bases
In response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Expressway service area was used as a gathering base and relay base for the Self-Defense Forces, fire departments, etc. We are developing a service area that has the function of backing up lifelines such as wells and using it as a common disaster countermeasure room. We also carry out disaster prevention drills jointly with related organizations.
