The hot summer has passed and the cool autumn season has arrived. I think there are many people who use the Expressway to go out, but don't let your guard down. Traffic management personnel who protect the safety and security of Expressway and manner-improving characters "Manati" will call for compliance with the three "autumn traffic safety key points" (see next page) through videos on Twitter.

Four. NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office /Autumn Traffic Safety Key Points

  1. Be sure to wear seat belts and child seats correctly in all seats!
The fatality rate for those not wearing seatbelts in traffic accidents on Expressway is about 20 times that for those wearing seatbelts! (Research by the National Police Agency 2019)
In order to protect important people and precious lives, please be sure to wear seat belts not only in the driver's seat and passenger seat, but also in all seats including the back seat, and if you have small children, please be sure to wear a child seat!
  2. Watch out for motorcycle accidents!
Summer to autumn is a pleasant season for motorcycle riding in Hokkaido, but according to data from the past three years, nearly half of all motorcycle accidents are caused by improper handling of the steering wheel (Table 1). By age group, more than half of the respondents were in their 40s and 50s (Table 2).
When riding a motorcycle, you will be directly exposed to the wind, so you will get tired without realizing it. Please take frequent breaks along the way, and drive safely without driving dangerously, such as slipping through the road!
  3. Turn on the lights early and frequently switch between high beam and low beam!
Compared to summer, there is a tendency for more traffic accidents at dusk due to inattentiveness to the road ahead in autumn (Table 3). As the sun sets earlier each day, please turn on the lights early!
In addition, in principle, we recommend driving with high beams because it is necessary to quickly detect abnormalities ahead on Expressway traveling at 100 km / h. Please switch between high beam and low beam frequently and drive safely at night!

The NEXCO EAST Group has positioned the period from 2021 to 2025 as "a period that contributes to the achievement of the SDGs and transforms into a new future society," and is making various efforts.
We believe that this "Traffic Safety Awareness" will contribute to the 3rd and 17th SDGs as a business activity that will lead to the reduction of casualties due to traffic accidents.
