NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) is pleased to inform you that it has compiled predictions of congestion due to traffic concentration on Expressway in Hokkaido during the year-end and New Year period and countermeasures.
Please use this traffic congestion forecast as a reference to avoid peak traffic jams, adjust your departure time, and make flexible travel plans. Also, please check the latest traffic information before departure, as actual traffic conditions may differ from predictions due to accidents or weather conditions.

1. 1. Congestion forecast

For the year-end and New Year's holidays (December 28, 2008 (Friday) to 2019 January 6, 2008 (Sunday) 10 days), traffic congestion is expected to occur from January 1 (Tuesday) to 3 (Thursday).

2. Requests for using Expressway

  1. Please use the traffic jam prediction information and shift the predicted peak day and time of traffic jam to avoid traffic jams.
  2. Please keep a sufficient distance between cars in a traffic jam area and drive at a safe speed. If you feel tired, don't overdo it and try to take an early break at the rest facility.
  3. In order to prevent a rear-end collision in a traffic jam section, if you confirm a traffic jam ahead, please cooperate with us by turning on the hazard lamp and signaling the following vehicle.

3. Traffic jam/congestion countermeasures

We will implement the following measures as measures against congestion and congestion during the year-end and New Year holidays.

  • Providing traffic congestion information and warnings using marked vehicles and road information boards at major traffic congestion points and at the end of traffic congestion
