NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) has summarized traffic congestion prediction and its countermeasures due to traffic congestion on Expressway in Hokkaido during the Golden Week period [April 25-May 6].

This traffic congestion forecast is based on the past traffic conditions such as Golden Week and Obon.

  • It is predicted that congestion and congestion will occur during the 5 consecutive holidays (May 2 to 6) in the latter half of the period, and the peak will be May 2 (Sat).
  • Especially on Doto Expressway, on May 2 (Sat)
    Tomamu IC ~ Tokachi Shimizu IC (Chitose direction) near Hirouchi tunnel
    Mukawa Hobetsu IC ~ Shimukappu IC (Chitose direction) near Hobetsu Tunnel
    In each, we are predicting a traffic jam of about 10 km.

Measures against traffic congestion

Regarding the measures against traffic congestion and congestion during the Golden Week period, we will implement the following measures.

  • Providing traffic congestion information and warnings for rear-end collisions by using labeled vehicles at the end of traffic congestion
  • Arrangement of parking lot organizers and provision of temporary toilets at rest facilities
  • Increased illumination of tunnel lighting in some tunnels

  • Understanding and cooperating with customers avoiding traffic jams and congestion, such as changing the customer's usage date and time to a time other than the time when traffic jams and congestion are predicted and using the ICs around before and after the IC exit congestion please.
  • Please check the latest road traffic information before departure, as the road conditions may change significantly due to accidents and weather.
  • Excessive speed will cause an accident. Please keep a sufficient distance between cars and drive at a safe speed suitable for the road conditions. If you feel tired, don't overdo it and try to take an early break at the rest facility.
