NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Sapporo City Atsubetsu-ku) is due to traffic concentration on the Expressway in Hokkaido during the Obon season [August 5, 2010 (Thurs)-August 18, 2010 (Wed): 14 days] We have summarized traffic congestion prediction and countermeasures.
Congestion trends
- It is predicted that the peak will be from Friday, August 13th to Sunday, August 15th. (See Attachment 1) [PDF: 43KB]
- This traffic congestion forecast is based on the traffic volume increase results such as last year's Bon Festival and this year's Golden Week, the traffic congestion situation, and the traffic volume results after the free social experiment. Please use this traffic congestion prediction to avoid congestion by shifting the use day and time of the Expressway the day and time when traffic congestion is predicted to occur.
In addition, traffic conditions may change significantly due to the effects of accidents and weather. Before departure, please check the latest road traffic information on "DraPla", highway telephone, Japan Road Traffic Information Center, etc.
Strengthening measures against congestion

Expressway safely and comfortably

- Flat tires and engine overheating are the most common causes of breakdowns on Expressway. Before departure, check tire pressure, engine oil, cooling water, etc.
- There are three gas stations in Expressway (Sunagawa SA, Waatsu PA, Usuyama SA). Please be careful about the remaining amount of gasoline.
- If an accident or malfunction occurs, stop as much as possible on the shoulder of the road, turn on the hazard lights, and use the flaming cylinder or the triangular display plate to signal the following vehicle. In addition, both drivers and passengers should be careful of passing vehicles, evacuate to a safe place such as outside the guardrail, and report from an emergency phone or mobile phone "#9910" near you.
- If the damage is caused by a fallen object, the owner will be liable. Please check the shipment.
- The left lane of the Expressway is the driving lane and the right lane is the passing lane. When you finish passing, return to the driving lane and keep the "key left".
