West Nippon Expressway Company Limited
NEXCO EAST, NEXCO CENTRAL, and NEXCO WEST (hereinafter referred to as the "Three NEXCO Companies") will promote further local deployment of wrong-way driving countermeasures on Expressway in relation to the Wrong-way Driving Countermeasure Technology Theme I (technology that uses physical and visual measures on the roadside to alert wrong-way driving vehicles) that was publicly solicited in 2016, based on a report from the "Expert Committee on Measures to Prevent Wrong-way Driving on Expressway" (hereinafter referred to as the "Expert Committee") established by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
To further promote measures against wrong-way driving, the three NEXCO companies called for submissions from private companies in 2016 as Theme I, which calls for technologies to be developed using physical and visual measures on the roadside to warn wrong-way driving vehicles. In 2018, they selected 11 technologies that were deemed effective after field testing and have been installing them on site.
Based on the report on the effectiveness of these countermeasures at the seventh meeting of the Expert Committee held on July 24, 2024, METI will utilize the "Catalog of Wrong-Way Driving Countermeasure Technologies: Physical and Visual Measures," which summarizes the features and effects of each technology, to further deploy these technologies on roads in locations where Expressway.
