NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) will announce its congestion forecast (traffic congestion of 10 km or more) on Expressway during the Obon period (Thursday, August 8, 2024 to Sunday, August 18, 2024: 11 days).
Holiday discounts will not be applied during the Obon holiday period. Please help us by avoiding crowded days and times and spreading out your use of the facilities.

Out-bound

  • Traffic jams occur mainly in the morning
  • Be especially careful on Saturday, August 10th and Sunday, August 11th!
  • Biggest traffic jam:
    8月10日(土)8時をピークに、
    東北道 矢板北PA付近を先頭に45km
  • Number of traffic jams of 10km or more: 68

  • Traffic jams occur mainly from evening to night
  • Be especially careful from Monday, August 12th to Wednesday, August 14th!

Comparison of traffic congestion during the Obon period last year (within our jurisdiction)

Last year (2023) during the Obon period, people refrained from traveling due to bad weather, so the number of traffic jams this year is expected to increase compared to last year.

In addition to posting traffic jam forecast guides, ``traffic forecasters'' from each Regional Head Office in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Kanto, and Niigata provide video explanations of points for avoiding traffic jams. Please note that the traffic jam forecast guide will also be distributed in booklet form at each rest facility, so please make use of it.

  • NEXCO EAST is currently installing traffic congestion point signs at Sag, which is a major traffic jam point. To prevent traffic jams, please be careful to slow down if you see this sign.
