NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has developed and demonstrated technology (in the jurisdiction 1) regarding "technology to automatically detect events such as accidents and falling objects on Expressway from traffic monitoring camera images" as part of joint research and development. (Locations) will be held with NEXCO CENTRAL (3 locations in the jurisdiction). The technology is NEXCO CENTRAL, and four of the applicant companies have been selected.
Expressway to grasp traffic conditions such as traffic jams and traffic accidents. It is necessary to improve safety by efficiently utilizing these cameras, early detection and prompt response. Until now, we have introduced technology that automatically discovers with a fixed camera in the tunnel, but since it is affected by environmental factors such as sunlight light sources and shadows outdoors, the detection rate will be low, so these We will develop and demonstrate technology and confirm its effectiveness to solve problems.

Expected effects by introducing technology that automatically detects from traffic surveillance camera images

Technology development / demonstration and future development

With a traffic monitoring camera capable of zooming and turning, we are planning to improve the detection accuracy of the following two points by AI learning and formulate specifications for full-scale introduction in the future.

  1. Technology that automatically recognizes the angle of view and discovers traffic accidents, etc.
  2. Technology to detect traffic accidents even at night when no lighting is installed

In addition, we will consider adding an operation that enables efficient confirmation using AI detection for the confirmation work that is currently being monitored by people 24 hours a day, 365 days a year after technological development and demonstration, aiming for full-line monitoring of Expressway I will continue.
