East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.

NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has compiled a traffic congestion forecast and countermeasures for the year-end and New Year period (December 28, 2008 (Friday) to 2019 January 6, 2008 (Sunday): 10 days).

1. Request for distributed use

Your plan is for the expected congestion Change from peak day, Or Change to a time when traffic is relatively light Please avoid using the traffic congestion.

About consideration of avoiding peak days

Especially during the year-end and New Year holidays January 2 (Wednesday) to 3rd (Thursday) There is a lot of traffic congestion.
January 4th (Friday) to 6th (Sunday) Please consider using!

Out-bound line:
December 30th (Sunday) E17 Kanetsu Kan-Etsu Expressway near Takasaka service area (Higashimatsuyama City, Saitama Prefecture) approximately 20km
January 2nd (Wednesday) E14 Keiyo Expressway near Kaizuka Interchange (Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture) approximately 20km

Traffic jam scale 2018
December 28 (Fri) to 1/6 (Sun)
2017
12/28 (Thurs) to 1/6 (Sat)
Number of predictions Total traffic count Number of traffic jams caused by concentrated traffic (*)
10km or more 46 times 46 times 32 times
  • The number of traffic jams due to traffic concentration is the number of traffic jams excluding the impact of accidents, etc.

2. Efforts to prevent congestion

Based on the current traffic congestion forecast and the traffic congestion period until now (year-end and New Year holidays, Obon, Golden Week, etc.), we will implement the following efforts during the period when we predict particularly heavy congestion. Attachment 2 [PDF: 348KB]

  • Initiatives in the main line
-In-bound rear-end collision Beware of speed decrease caution, traffic jam end in slope, etc.
  • Efforts at rest facilities
・Arrangement of parking lot organizers ・Securing large vehicle parking spaces ・Installation of temporary toilets, etc.

Drive Plaza (DraPla) is full of Expressway information.

NEXCO EAST provides "Dorapura", which provides real-time road traffic conditions on highways and information on congestion prediction information, as well as searching for traveling time considering expressway fees and congestion prediction. You can browse from a personal computer, smart phone, tablet terminal. Please use all means.

Congestion forecast guide/congestion forecast & outing guide

A traffic congestion forecast guide containing traffic congestion forecasts for NEXCO EAST and Central Japan (Chubu) is distributed in the service area and parking area. In addition, please use the site "Traffic Forecast & Outing Guide", where the traffic forecasters at each Regional Head Office have posted videos explaining traffic forecasts and points to avoid traffic.

3. 3. Request for alleviation of traffic congestion

A little consideration on the part of customers can help alleviate traffic congestion. Thank you for your cooperation.

  1. In-bound attention to the rate of decrease in the slope
In-bound in a place that is alerting the slowdown, such as slope, for your cooperation to speed recovery!
  2. Do not reduce the distance between vehicles too much
Ensure sufficient inter-vehicle distance so that you do not press the brakes while driving!
  3. Do not change lanes
Excessive lane changes during traffic jams will worsen traffic congestion!

The holiday discount application dates for the year-end and New Year holidays are 12/29 (Sat), 30 (Sun), 1/1 (Tue / holiday), 2 (Wed), 3 (Thurs), 5 (Sat), 6 (Sun) Will be. For detailed discount application conditions, please see "DraPla".

Topics 1. About traffic jams on CA Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway

  • Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway, the traffic volume is increasing year by year due to the discounted tariffs for ETC vehicles (from August 2009) and the opening of large commercial facilities (April 2012).
  • Among them In-bound aqua tunnel of the line In-bound from the fact that is a slope, because the speed is likely to be reduced to one not to notice, set up a pacemaker light on the wall, year of installation traffic congestion has been reduced.
  • However, the traffic volume has continued to increase since then, and traffic jams regularly occur on weekends. During this year's New Year's holiday period, we predict that there will be long traffic jams of around 15 km on In-bound line on January 2nd (Wednesday) and January 3rd (Thursday). We ask for your cooperation in avoiding times when traffic congestion is predicted (In-bound lines from around 2:00 p.m. to around 8:00 p.m.).
  • On Out-bound line, we predict that traffic congestion will peak around 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on January 2nd (Wednesday) and 3rd (Thursday), along the approximately 20km stretch leading to the Metropolitan Expressway Wangan Line, so please be aware of this when using the line. Please be careful.

  • Furthermore, since December of last year, we have been implementing ``AI traffic jam prediction'' using NTT Docomo's AI technology. It is a highly accurate traffic jam prediction that takes into account the effects of weather and events, as it makes predictions based on the number of people on the day. Please take advantage of this service when you go to the Boso Peninsula on the Aqua Line.

Topics 2. Comparison of time required for route selection
~Analysis results using ETC2.0 probe data~

  • Due to the development of Expressway, multiple routes can be selected even at the same starting and arriving points.
  • For example, when comparing the average travel time on January 2, 2018 using ETC2.0 probe data for the section from near Takasaki IC to near Kawaguchi JCT, it was found that due to traffic jams that occurred on Kan-Etsu Expressway, etc., the travel distance There was a time when the time required for the route via Kita-Kanto Expressway, which had a long route, was about 40 minutes shorter.
  • We recommend checking the latest traffic conditions from wide-area information monitors installed in service areas, etc., or from "DraPla *1" provided by NEXCO EAST. Please also use traffic congestion predictions to help you choose your route.
  1. Detail is Attachment 3 [PDF: 833KB] Please refer to.

Topic 3. Example of avoiding particularly long traffic jams

  1. January 2nd (Wednesday) E4 Tohoku Expressway (In-bound line) Traffic jam starting near Kuki IC [maximum 40km]
    • Congestion peaks are from 17:00 to 18:00, and the time required is about three times (about 1 hour 20 minutes) as compared to when there is no congestion.
    • It is estimated that the time required to pass the Tochigi IC before 14:00 or after 21:00 is about 30 minutes, so we recommend that you use it during times when traffic congestion is avoided.

  2. January 2nd (Wednesday) E17 Kan-Etsu Expressway (In-bound line) Congestion starting near the Takasaka service area [maximum 35km]
  • The peak of traffic congestion is from 16:00 to 18:00, and the time required is about three times (about 1 hour and 10 minutes) as compared to when there is no traffic congestion.
  • It is estimated that the time required to pass the Honjo Kodama IC before 12:00 or after 22:00 is approximately 25 minutes, so we recommend that you use it during times when traffic congestion is avoided.
