East Japan/Central Japan/West Japan Expressway Co., Ltd. announced on December 20, 2016 that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced “Measures to prevent frontal collision accidents on Expressway emergency measures to save lives. From pole to rope” and Through the "Technical Review Committee on Countermeasures for Frontal Collision Accidents on Expressway" held on December 26, 2016, we will promote further provisional two-lane safety measures.

Regarding wire rope, which is an approach to prevent temporary collisions in two-lane frontal collisions, we have collaborated with the Civil Engineering Research Institute for Civil Engineering and the Civil Engineering Research Institute for Cold Region to make further improvements suitable for temporary two-lane collisions of large vehicles. Perform an experiment. In addition, East Japan Expressway Co., Ltd. will carry out accident response training on behalf of swift response in the event of an accident at the location where the wire rope is installed. This time, we decided to open the site for collision experiments and accident response training.

1 collision experiment

Date and time:
Wednesday, March 8, 2017 11:00-
(Reception starts at 9:30, advance explanation starts at 10:00)
Purpose:
Confirmation of performance of further improvement suitable for provisional two lanes (change of tension, change of strut spacing, etc.)
Overview:
A stuntman rides on a large vehicle and plans to conduct a collision test
Wire rope specimen creation: Steel Guard Fence Association

2 Accident response training

Date and time:
After the collision test on Wednesday, March 8, 2017
(Preliminary explanation: Start at 11:45, start of accident response training at 12:00)
Purpose:
Assuming a situation where an accident vehicle is blocking the lane in the provisional two-lane wire rope installation section, the wire rope must be removed and re-installed in order to rescue and transport an injured person and to respond to a stagnant vehicle. It is intended to strengthen cooperation between related organizations in response to an accident in the wire rope installation section by carrying out practical comprehensive training to quickly respond to the above and to release the accident suspension.
Overview:
Carrying out accident response training assuming that there is a collision of a vehicle with a wire rope in a provisional two-lane section, the accident vehicle is blocking the lane, and there are one or two stagnant cars.
