NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has summarized traffic conditions during the Golden Week period.

[Summary of traffic conditions]

  • The number of traffic jams over 10 km was 125 times, an increase of 15 times compared to last year (about 14% increase).
  • The number of traffic jams over 30km was 13 times, an increase of 1 (up about 8%) compared to last year.
  • The largest traffic jam that occurred during the period was 49.0 km, which began at around Hanazono IC on the Kan-Etsu Expressway (Out-bound) and took place around 8:40 on Friday, May 3rd.
  • The average daily traffic volume of the 23 main sections increased by about 4% from the previous year.
