East / medium / West Expressway Co., Ltd. and (Foundation) Japan Road Traffic Information Center, the Golden Week period [April 2009 25 days 12 days (Sat) to May 6 (Wed.)] Expressway traffic in We summarized the tendency of traffic congestion due to concentration, the place where traffic congestion of 30 km or more is predicted, and the required transit time.

We predict that this year's traffic congestion will be longer than usual, so please use the traffic congestion forecast information to shift your departure time around before or after the time when traffic congestion is predicted. Please help us. As a result of the special holiday discount, we are forecasting traffic congestion based on the results of the increase in traffic volume confirmed on two holidays, but it is expected that usage trends will differ from usual years, and Please note that congestion may occur even in areas where there is no congestion.

As for congestion measures, we plan to implement the following measures beyond the usual Golden Week, taking into account the increase in traffic volume.

  • Measures to alert the rear end of a traffic jam
  • Arrangement of parking lot organizers in service areas, etc.
  • Installation of temporary toilet
  • In-bound the rate of decrease in the slope, such as warning measures such as

1 Congestion prediction

[Trend of traffic congestion]

The increase in traffic volume due to special holiday discounts was about 10% in large cities in NEXCO EAST and West, about 30% in rural areas, and about 20% in all in NEXCO CENTRAL We made a traffic congestion prediction based on the above.

During the Golden Week period last year, there were 214 congestions of 10km or more at the peak, but this year we predict 372 (1.7 times more than last year). (The last year's results are data including the effects of accidents, etc.)

In particular, long traffic congestion of 30 km or more was predicted a total of 56 times on Tohoku Expressway, Kan-Etsu Expressway, Tomei Expressway, Chuo Expressway, Meishin Expressway, Tomei Han Expressway, Nishi Meihan Expressway, Chugoku Expressway, and Kyushu Expressway. It is expected to double compared with last year's Golden Week period (28 times). It takes a long time to pass the traffic jam, so please refer to the traffic jam forecast information and drive while avoiding the time zone when the traffic jam is predicted.
