NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo) will announce its forecast for traffic congestion due to traffic concentration on Expressway under its Regional Head Office during the Golden Week period [Friday, April 25, 2025 to Tuesday, May 6, 2025: 12 days].
In order to alleviate traffic congestion, we ask for your cooperation in "dispersing use of the facilities" by avoiding busy days and times.
Additionally, holiday discounts will not be applied during Golden Week.
1. Major traffic congestion predicted sections (traffic jams of 10km or more)
Sapporo ⇒ Eastern and Southern Hokkaido
- On Saturday, May 3rd, between 9am and 1pm, with a peak at 11am, the Do-o Expressway In-bound Oyachi IC Eniwa IC for a maximum of 15km.
- On Saturday, May 3rd, between 10am and 4pm, with a peak at noon, traffic will be restricted to a maximum of 10km from Oiwakecho IC to Mukawa Hobetsu IC Out-bound Doto Expressway
道東⇒札幌方面

On Saturday, May 3rd, between 9am and 3pm with a peak at 11am, from Tomamu IC to Mukawa Hobetsu IC In-bound Doto Expressway maximum of 15km

On Monday, May 5th, between 4pm and 9pm, with a peak at 6pm, traffic will be restricted to a maximum of 15km from Tomamu IC to Mukawa Hobetsu IC In-bound Doto Expressway

3. Special website for traffic congestion and "Golden Week traffic congestion forecast"
The customer website "DraPla" has set up a special site for traffic congestion periods. In addition to posting a traffic congestion forecast guide, a "traffic congestion forecaster" from the Hokkaido Regional Head Office provides videos explaining tips for avoiding traffic congestion.
In addition, the "Golden Week Traffic Jam Forecast" for the Hokkaido Regional Head Office Office area will be posted and distributed at rest facilities throughout Hokkaido from around mid-April, so please make use of it.
Four. Precautions regarding ETC holiday discounts
Holiday discounts will not be applied during Golden Week. Please see below for details.
5. Eliminate wrong-way driving –Expressway are one-way streets –
Driving the wrong way is a dangerous act that can be life-threatening. U-turns and backing up are strictly prohibited. If you hear or see information about wrong-way driving, slow down, keep a sufficient distance, and keep a close eye on the movements of the vehicle ahead. For details, please see below.
