This time, Iwate Prefecture, Hanamaki City, and the Tohoku Regional Head Office East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd. (Miyagino Ward, Sendai City) have jointly developed E4 We are pleased to announce that the Hanamaki PA (Hanamaki PA) Smart Interchange (Smart IC), an ETC-only interchange connecting to the Hanamaki Parking Area (PA) Tohoku Expressway, has been completed and will open at 3:00 p.m. on 2024 (national holiday).
The connection of the Hanamaki PA Smart IC is expected to have a number of benefits, including improving the local environment, supporting local industries, and assisting emergency medical activities.

Full-interval type with temporary stop (upper and lower separation type *)
　Please note that if you exit from Tohoku Expressway Main Line at this smart IC, you will not be able to use Hanamaki PA.

  • Please note that the entrance for Sendai (In-bound line) and the entrance for Aomori (Out-bound line) are separate.

Tohoku Expressway Hanamaki PA Smart IC is connected to Hanamaki PA, which is located 7.9 km north of Kitakami Ezuriko IC and 1.9 km south of Hanamaki Minami IC.

9. How to use smart IC

◆ Smart IC is an interchange exclusively for ETC.

  • To use it, insert an ETC card into the ETC on-board unit and pass.
  • Be sure to stop before the opening / closing bar of the smart IC.
  • This smart IC does not have local staff. In case of trouble such as the opening / closing bar not opening, please use the intercom in the lane.

◆The Hanamaki PA Smart IC has separate entrances for Sendai (In-bound line) and Aomori (Out-bound line), so please be careful when using the IC. (See figure below)
If you are heading in the wrong direction, please inform us using the intercom in front of the ETC gate.
Also, please note that if you exit from Tohoku Expressway Main Line at this smart IC, you will not be able to use Hanamaki PA.
