NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office (Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) Congestion prediction due to traffic congestion on Expressway in the Tohoku region during the Golden Week period [Friday, April 26, 2013 to Monday, May 6, 2013] Is summarized.
Please use the traffic congestion prediction information and make a leisurely travel plan such as avoiding traffic congestion by decentralizing the use of Expressway before and after the day or time when traffic congestion is predicted.
1 Congestion prediction
Every year, on the Expressway in the Tohoku region, traffic is congested due to the concentration of passengers heading to holiday destinations during Golden Week.
During this year's Golden Week, traffic congestion of 10 km or more on the Tohoku Expressway occurred 9 times in the Out-bound direction and 18 times in the In-bound direction, a total of 27 times. The maximum traffic congestion on the In-bound and Out-bound lines is predicted as follows. (Attachment 1 [PDF: 174KB], Attachment 2 [PDF: 179KB] reference)
Road name | Direction | Date | Peak hours | Maximum traffic length | Top of traffic jam | Generation IC section * Traffic trailing IC |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tohoku Expressway | Out-bound line | Friday, May 3 | Around 9:00 | 35km | Near Adachi Tara SA (Beyond Motomiya IC (About 3km) | Yabuki IC ~ Nihonmatsu IC |

≪Result of last year (reference)≫
During the Golden Week period of last year [10 days from April 27 (Friday) to May 6 (Sunday), 2012], traffic congestion of 10 km or more was 11 times in the Out-bound direction and 17 times in the In-bound direction, a total of 28 times. The longest traffic jam occurred on the Tohoku Expressway in the Out-bound direction on May 3 (Thursday) around Adachi Tara Service Area (Shirakawa IC-Nihonmatsu IC) at about 43.4 km (accident and traffic concentration), and in the In-bound direction On Saturday, May 5, it was about 25.8km (traffic concentration), starting from the area near the Fukushima Tunnel (Kunimi IC to Nihonmatsu IC).

[Congestion prediction method]
Congestion prediction takes into account traffic trends and excludes congestion caused by unusual events such as accidents and traffic closures based on past congestion records and changes in traffic volume, and predicts the date and time and place of congestion occurrence. ..

5 Request from NEXCO EAST Tohoku Regional Head Office
- Please use the traffic congestion prediction information and make a leisurely travel plan such as avoiding traffic congestion by decentralizing the use of Expressway before and after the day or time when traffic congestion is predicted. Also, please check the road conditions immediately before going out.
- Before using the Expressway check the amount of gasoline and tire pressure etc. in advance to prevent problems on the Expressway. Also, in order to prevent falling objects, please make sure that your luggage is fixed before departure.
- Please refuel and toilet as soon as possible before using the Expressway or at a rest facility in front of a traffic jam section.
- Fatigue tends to accumulate when driving at night or for long hours. In order to prevent accidents such as drowsiness, take appropriate breaks using SA etc. and try to drive safely.
- In order to prevent a rear-end collision in the traffic jam section, when you confirm a traffic jam ahead, please turn on the hazard lamp and signal to the following vehicle.
- In the unlikely event of an accident or malfunction, install a triangular stop plate, immediately evacuate to a safe place such as outside the guardrail, and make a call using an emergency phone or mobile phone. When making a call using a mobile phone, use the road emergency dial " #9910 Please report to.
Even if you find an abnormality on the road or a fallen object, you can dial the road emergency dial " #9910 Please report to. - Expressway, all seats, including the rear seats, are legally required to wear seat belts, so be sure to wear them.
