Reference: A scene from a wrong-way driving response training conducted in 2023
NEXCO EAST Niigata Regional Head Office (Chuo-ku, Niigata City) will conduct a joint response training exercise with the Niigata Expressway Traffic Police Unit (Highway Patrol) and other related organizations on 2024, simulating the occurrence of a vehicle driving the wrong way on Expressway.
This training, now in its ninth year, is being conducted with the aim of jointly verifying with relevant agencies quick and accurate response procedures for vehicles driving the wrong way on Expressway, which have the potential to lead to serious accidents, as well as further improving response capabilities to vehicles driving the wrong way and strengthening cooperation between team members.

Content
Assuming a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on Expressway, we will check how to cooperate with each other through a series of responses from receiving a witness report to lifting the road closure.
~ Training scenario (past example) ~
- 「逆走車両を目撃した」との通報を受けた高速隊とNEXCO東日本交通 管理隊は現場に急行し、走行する順行車両に対して通行止めを実施する
- A member sends a signal to the reverse running vehicle and stops it on the spot
- Move a stopped wrong-way vehicle and its driver to a safe location
- After confirming the safety of the site, the road closure is lifted and the remaining vehicles are smoothly cleared.
