NEXCO EAST The Utsunomiya Management Office (Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture) will close the E4 Tohoku Expressway (" Tohoku Expressway") In-bound line at the Sano Service Area ("SA") and Sano SA Smart Interchange ("Smart IC") at night for pavement repair work.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your understanding and cooperation in allowing extra time for your trip. During the closure of the SA, rest facilities will not be available, so we ask that you use other rest facilities.
1. 1. Closing location and date and time
- Closures:
Tohoku Expressway Expressway In-bound) Sano SA entrance/exit ramp and Sano SA Smart IC entrance ramp - Attached to each line E4 The indications such as indicate the route number (numbering) of Expressway.
- Passengers using Sano SA on In-bound lanes (towards Tokyo) are asked to leave by 8 p.m.
- Due to the closure of the Sano SA entrance/exit ramps In-bound lanes (towards Tokyo), it is not possible to exit from the Sano SA Smart IC on In-bound lanes.
- Sano SA and Sano SA Smart IC on Out-bound lane (towards Fukushima) will remain open as usual.
- Date and timeImplementation date:July 29th (Monday) to July 30th (Tuesday) 20242 days, from 8pm to 6amPreparation day:July 31st (Wednesday) - August 1st (Thursday) 20242 days, from 8pm to 6am
- In stormy weather, it will be postponed to the spare day.
- The decision to proceed with construction will be announced on X (formerly Twitter) etc. around 5:00 pm on the same day.
2. Please use other rest facilities
During the closure, the rest facilities will not be available, so please use the following rest facilities:
Tohoku Expressway Otani PA, Toganishikata PA, Hanyu PA
North Kanto Expressway Izuruhara PA, Mibu PA
3. Construction overview
Tohoku Expressway In-bound Pavement repair work will be conducted at the entrance/exit ramps of Sano SA and the Sano SA Smart IC entrance ramp due to the difference in levels. Since the construction work cannot be carried out with the usual lane restrictions and parking lot restrictions, it will be necessary to close the SA for the work. Therefore, in order to minimize inconvenience to customers, the SA will be closed during the nighttime on weekdays when traffic volume is low, so that the work can be carried out intensively and efficiently.
We ask for your understanding and cooperation as this work is necessary for the safe and comfortable use of Expressway.
4. Detour route when Sano SA Smart IC In-bound lanes are closed
Sano SA Smart IC In-bound Detour due to impossibility of exiting
(1) Customers coming from the Tohoku Expressway In-bound line (Fukushima direction)
Tohoku Expressway Please use the Tochigi IC and take Prefectural Road 75, etc. as shown in the blue line below. If you take this route between Tochigi IC and Sano SA Smart IC, it is expected to take about 35 minutes (normally about 9 minutes).
(2) Passengers travelling from the North Kanto Expressway eastbound (towards Takasaki)
Take the Sano Tanuma IC on the Kita-Kanto Expressway and follow the directions on the map below. Orange Line Please use Prefectural Route 16, Prefectural Route 270, Prefectural Route 67, etc. If you take this detour between Sano Tanuma IC and Sano SA Smart IC, the estimated travel time will be approximately 20 minutes (usually approximately 7 minutes).

(3) Passengers traveling on In-bound Tohoku Expressway Expressway (Towards Tokyo)
Please take Tohoku Expressway Sano Fujioka IC, and follow the red lines in the diagram below to Prefectural Route 352, Prefectural Route 270, and National Route 50. If you take this detour between Sano SA Smart IC and Sano Fujioka IC, the estimated travel time will be approximately 9 minutes (usually 2 minutes).
The detour will take longer, so please allow yourself plenty of time when traveling.
Five. How to obtain traffic information

- Notice signs, posters and leaflets will be posted at toll booths and rest facilities nearby.
- A notice board will be installed on the lamp to be closed.
