NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office and NEXCO CENTRAL Tokyo Regional Head Office /Hachioji Regional Head Office, the year-end and New Year period [December 26, 2013 (Thursday) to January 5, 2014 (Sunday) 11 days] Kanto Koshin region and Shizuoka We would like to inform you that we have summarized the trends and countermeasures for traffic congestion (10 km or more) due to traffic concentration predicted to occur on Expressway prefecture (including Tomei Toyokawa IC in Aichi prefecture).

Please refer to this traffic jam forecast to avoid peak traffic jams and adjust your departure times to help plan your trip. The forecast is based on past traffic jams during the year-end and New Year holidays and recent traffic conditions, but actual traffic conditions may differ from the forecast due to accidents and weather conditions. Please check for the latest traffic information.

In addition, each Expressway company provides traffic congestion prediction information and road traffic information using various tools. Please use it when using the Expressway.

1 Congestion prediction

(1) Trend of traffic congestion
Out-bound direction is diversified, we predict that congestion will occur mainly from December 28th (Sat) to 30th (Mon) and January 2nd (Thurs) to 4th (Sat).

In-bound direction, we predict that congestion will be concentrated from January 2 (Thursday) to 4th (Saturday).

We would like to ask you for your cooperation as we can expect shorter travel times by using the traffic congestion prediction to avoid peak traffic congestion.

3 Customer Service Initiatives (Countermeasures against congestion)

We will work to strengthen our customer services, including measures to alert people to the rear end of a traffic jam, assign parking lot organizers at rest facilities, install temporary toilets, and secure parking for large vehicles.

~ Requesting customers to drive safely ~

  • Please take anti-slip measures such as wearing winter tires and carrying tire chains.
  • Expressway has seen a sharp increase in the number of people being hit by accidents.
    If you are forced to stop on the shoulder of a road due to an accident or breakdown, signal the vehicle behind you with a hazard, a triangular plate, or a smoke tube, evacuate to a safe place, and call the emergency phone.
  • Driving for a long time causes an accident.
    If you feel "sleepy" or "tired" while driving, do not overdo it and take an early break.
  • Please check the car before riding to prevent troubles while driving.
  • Please wear all seat belts, including the back seats.
  • Insert the ETC card securely.
  • Enter the ETC lane after decelerating to 20 km/h or less, and drive slowly inside the ETC lane.
  • Please be careful of a rear-end collision at the end of a traffic jam.
  • Refuel and toilet early. Take proper breaks and drive safely.
