NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) predicts traffic congestion due to traffic congestion at Expressway in Hokkaido during the year-end and New Year period [December 26-January 4]. We have summarized the measures, so let me know.

This traffic congestion forecast is based on the traffic conditions of the past Bon Festival, Golden Week, New Year holidays, etc.
- On Hokkaido Expressway, we forecast traffic jams and congestion on Saturday, January 2 and Sunday, January 3.
- Especially on Saturday, January 2nd, at Hokkaido Expressway and Doto Expressway, the following relatively large traffic jams are predicted.
Hokkaido Expressway Eniwa IC → Kitahiroshima IC (direction Sapporo) 5km from the exit near Kitahiroshima IC
Doto Expressway Shimukappu IC → Mukawa Hobetsu IC (in the direction of Chitose) 5km from the Hobetsu tunnel near the top

Measures against traffic congestion

Regarding traffic congestion and congestion countermeasures during the year-end and New Year holidays, we will implement the following efforts to improve safety and comfort.
- Providing traffic congestion information and warnings by using marked vehicles at major traffic congestion points and at the end of traffic congestion
- Placement of parking lot organizers at rest facilities
- Increased illumination of tunnel lighting in some tunnels

1. When using the Expressway (Attachment 3 [PDF: 436KB] reference)- Please use the traffic jam prediction information to plan a comfortable trip, such as avoiding the time when a traffic jam is predicted or avoiding IC.
- Please keep a sufficient distance between cars and drive at a safe speed. If you feel tired, don't overdo it and try to take an early break at the rest facility.
- In order to prevent a rear-end collision in a traffic jam section, if you confirm a traffic jam ahead, please cooperate by lighting the hazard lamp and signaling the following vehicle.
Please check the latest road traffic information before departure as the road conditions may change significantly due to accidents and weather.
