NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu Ward, Sapporo City) summarized the traffic conditions on the Expressway in Hokkaido during the Golden Week as follows.

Traffic volume during one period

  • The average traffic volume in the major sections (average value of the eight major sections) was 15,500, which was 105% of the previous year's level.
  • The traffic volume on the Hokkaido Expressway and the Fudaru Expressway was roughly the same as last year.
  • At Doto Expressway, traffic volume is increasing overall.
    Especially in the Kushiro area, the traffic volume between Honbetsu JCT and Honbetsu IC was approximately 2.6 times that of the previous year.

2 Traffic congestion

  • The number of traffic jams decreased by 3 times from the previous year to 10 times.
    In particular, traffic jams of 5 km or more have decreased 5 times compared to the previous year, and have decreased significantly.
  • The longest traffic congestion was due to the traffic concentration that occurred on May 5 in the direction of Sapporo between the Mukawa Hobetsu IC and the Shimukappu IC on the Doto Expressway. It became 13km.
