NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Sapporo City Atsubetsu-ku) has summarized the traffic conditions of Expressway in Hokkaido during the Golden Week period (hereinafter referred to as “GW period”) as follows.
Average daily traffic volume during one period
The average daily traffic volume for the main sections is as shown in the table below.
- The amount of traffic during the period increased slightly from the previous year and the year before last, between the Eniwa IC and Kitahiroshima IC, and between Asari IC and Zenibako IC in the suburbs of Sapporo, partly due to the effect of being blessed with the weather on May 4. Free of charge between Fukagawa IC and Asahikawa Takasu IC, and between Kunimi IC and Oshamanbu IC.
- Due to the opening of the Yubari IC-Shimukappu IC, the traffic volume on the Doto Expressway the traffic volume before the social experiment before the free social experiment between the Chitose East IC-Oiwake Town IC and the Tomamu IC-Tokachi Shimizu IC. Significantly increased in comparison. In addition, the traffic volume between Tomamu IC and Tokachi Shimizu IC was 17,500 vehicles/day, which was the highest on 5/5 (Sat) since it opened on October 29 last year.

2 Traffic congestion
- The number of traffic congestion this year was 10 times, which is 6 times less than the previous year. Of these, traffic congestion of 5 km or more occurred 4 times, and traffic congestion of 1 km or more occurred 6 times.
- The longest was congestion, May 3 days (Thursday) Doto Expressway at the exit congestion of road closures terminal associated with the accident that occurred between Tomamu IC ~ Tokachishimizu IC, Tomamu IC exit (Obihiro direction) and Tokachishimizu IC exit ( Starting in the direction of Sapporo), it reached 11.0km during peak hours (around 12:00).
