NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) announces the traffic congestion forecast (concentrated traffic congestion of 10 km or more) on Expressway during the year-end and New Year period [2024 Friday, December 27 through Sunday, January 5, 2025: 10 days].
Holiday discounts will not be applied during the year-end and New Year's holidays. We ask for your cooperation in avoiding congested days and times, and in "dispersed use".
Out-bound
- Traffic jams occur mainly in the morning
- Be especially careful on Thursday, January 2nd and Friday, January 3rd!
- Heaviest traffic jam: Peaking at 11am on Thursday, January 2nd
E4Tohoku Expressway, starting from near Hanyu PA, maximum 25km - Number of traffic jams of 10km or more: 16
In-bound direction
- Traffic jams occur mainly from evening to night
- Be especially careful from January 2nd (Thursday) to 4th (Saturday)!
- The worst traffic jam: Peaking at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 3rd.
E4Tohoku Expressway Expressway, starting from Kazo IC, maximum 35km - Number of traffic jams of 10km or more: 44

What is the main cause of traffic congestion?
- Most of the congestion caused by concentrated traffic on Expressway occurs due to sag.
- NEXCO EAST is currently installing traffic congestion point signs at Sag, which is a major traffic jam point. To prevent traffic jams, please be careful to slow down if you see this sign.
