East Nippon Expressway Co., Ltd.
NEXCO EAST (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Chairman of the Board, Shigeno Yagi) aims to improve safety and security on all ETC lanes managed by the Company, opening and closing bars sequentially from March 16 (Mon). We will start measures to strengthen the speed control that delays the opening timing of and will be completed by mid-April.
Up to now, we have asked our customers through various public relations media such as websites and pamphlets to drive at a safe speed of 20 km/h or less on the ETC lane to ensure safety, but it is greatly exceeding 20 km/h. Many customers can be seen, and if they continue to do so, they may not be able to secure sufficient safety on the ETC lane.
For this reason, at seven locations such as the Niigata West Toll Gate on the Hokuriku Expressway, we tried speed control measures to delay the opening timing of the opening/closing bar, and the effect of decreasing the passing speed was seen (for example, at the entrance of the Niigata West Toll Gate, The proportion of vehicles with a passing speed of 40 km/h or more decreased from about 36% (before trial start) to about 9% (4 months after trial).
Therefore, based on the results of this trial, we decided to fully implement this speed control enhancement measure in all lanes (excluding smart interchanges) of our company with the aim of realizing safer and more secure ETC lanes.
