About falling metal fragments from Usui Bridge on Joshin-Etsu Expressway

NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Taito Ward, Tokyo) Joshin-Etsu Expressway Installed at Usui Bridge joint section A metal fitting that fixes the water guide plate (a member that guides the flow of rainwater) fell and was found in the state of crushed metal fragments on the side road managed by Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture.

No accidents such as injuries or property damage have been confirmed.

We are currently conducting an emergency inspection of the relevant part to prevent recurrence.

At about 14:45 on November 8, 2012 (Thursday), a person living in the neighborhood contacted us saying, "There is a piece of metal that seems to have fallen from the bridge. Please check it." Confirmed locally by the employee.

5 Inspection and response status

February 20, 2012 Rust was confirmed by visual inspection, and follow-up observation was conducted.

6 Future action

  • Starting today, we will perform a tapping sound inspection of Usui Bridge and remove damaged parts.
  • In the future, we plan to conduct a tapping sound inspection of the joint part of the bridge under the jurisdiction of this Regional Head Office, which may cause damage to a third party due to the same phenomenon.
