In order to prevent drivers from running out of fuel on sections of Expressway where there are no gas stations, the "Off Expressway Gas Station Refueling Service Social Experiment (ETC vehicles only) (※)" has been carried out with the aim of eliminating sections of more than 150 km where there are no gas stations. This experiment will continue beyond April 2025.
- If you temporarily leave a designated IC to refuel at a designated GS, the fee will be adjusted to be the same as if you continued driving to your destination (continuing the long-distance reduction).
1. Duration of the experiment
The program will continue after April 1, 2025 (Tuesday)
- Please check the gas station information before using Expressway.
- This social experiment has been carried out since July 2017 at Towada IC Tohoku Expressway and since April 2016 at Niitsu IC Ban-Etsu Expressway.
- We will notify you separately when the social experiment ends.

- Designated GS may be temporarily closed due to the convenience of the store, so please check with the store in advance for business details.

3. Applicable condition
- This applies to customers who used a designated IC for the purpose of refueling and refueled at a designated GS. After refueling, please re-inflow from the designated IC.
- Limited to ETC cars (regardless of car type; cash cars are not eligible).
- The ETC card will be verified at the designated GS, so please contact the Niitsu toll gate staff or Towada toll gate staff using the special intercom installed in the GS office.
- Please re-enter the designated IC and return to Expressway within one hour after leaving the designated IC.
- Use in the same direction as the direction you were traveling before the designated IC was leaked is eligible. For example, after driving on In-bound line of Ban-Etsu Expressway, if it flows out at the Niitsu IC, the direction of In-bound line will be the target. Please note that if the direction is changed after refueling with the designated GS, it will not be covered.
