NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) conducted the first survey on the status of winter tires being fitted at rest facilities within its jurisdiction on December 4th (Wed) and 8th (Sun) in order to encourage people to put on winter tires early and to drive safely on snowy roads.
The installation rate of winter tires was 44.6% on average for compact cars, 89.6% on average for large cars, and 63.3% on average for all vehicle types. Compared to the survey conducted at the same time last year (Wednesday, December 6th and Sunday, December 10th, 2023), the installation rate for large cars increased, but the installation rate for compact cars in the Tokyo metropolitan area decreased, and less than half of customers had not installed winter tires. Driving on snowy or icy roads with normal tires is against the law.
Even in the greater Tokyo area, where snow does not usually fall, frozen roads and snowfall can occur.

Even though winter is just around the corner, there are still people who use normal tires!
