NEXCO EAST Japan Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) conducted a survey on the installation status of winter tires at rest facilities in the area in mid-December in order to encourage early installation of winter tires and safe driving on snowy roads. 1) was carried out.
The average installation rate for winter tires was 54.9% for small cars, 86.8% for large cars, and 62.3% for all car types. Compared to the survey conducted at the same time last year (conducted on December 7th and 11th, 2020), the installation rate for small cars increased, but the installation rate for large cars in the Tokyo metropolitan area decreased for the second consecutive year. Additionally, about half of the customers in small cars did not have it installed. (For survey details, see [Attachment 1] [PDF: 322KB])
It is against the law to drive on snowy or frozen roads with normal tires.
Additionally, even in areas of the Tokyo metropolitan area that don't usually get snow, you may experience frozen roads and snowfall.
Driving on snowy or frozen roads with normal tires is very dangerous, so please drive safely by wearing winter tires, carrying tire chains, and checking the latest weather forecasts and road information. (Refer to [Attachment 2] [PDF: 516KB])
The NEXCO EAST Group has positioned the period from 2021 to 2025 as "a period that contributes to the achievement of the SDGs and transforms into a new future society," and is making various efforts.
We believe that the efforts of this "Winter Tire Installation Rate Survey" will contribute to the third SDGs target as a business activity that will lead to the reduction of casualties due to traffic deaths.
