NEXCO EAST Hokkaido Regional Head Office (Atsubetsu-ku, Sapporo) From October 16, 2020 to April 30, 2023 of" snow and ice Seppyo During this period, we will monitor weather and road conditions and remove snow around the clock to ensure safe transportation.
Prior to the start of the snow and ice countermeasure period, we pray for traffic safety on Expressway in winter and the safety of snow and ice countermeasure work. The "Snow and Ice Countermeasures Departure Ceremony (Safety Prayer Festival)" will be held at five management offices throughout Hokkaido as follows.
We would like to ask customers to install winter tires and other winter equipment as soon as possible, and we ask for their understanding and cooperation in snow and ice countermeasures.

1. 1. Date and time of the snow and ice countermeasures departure ceremony (safety prayer festival)

• In case of rain, it will be done in the garage.

• If you would like to be interviewed, please contact each office by the day before the event date. On the day of the event, please come to the reception of the venue management office at least 10 minutes before the start time.
• In order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection, please cooperate in wearing a mask and maintaining a social distance when interviewing.

2. Traffic accident and snowfall

On Expressway in Hokkaido, the number of traffic accidents caused by incorrect steering and braking operations is about 4.3 times higher in winter than in summer. Depending on the weather and road conditions, please drive safely with plenty of time to spare, such as slowing down in the summer, and be sure to equip yourself with winter equipment such as winter tires as soon as possible. The average cumulative snowfall at each observation point on the Hokkaido Expressway last season (October 2021 to April 2022) was about 435.9 cm. The point with the most observed snowfall was the Kanayama Tunnel on the Do-O Expressway, with a cumulative total of 999.3 cm.

3. 3. Request for snow removal work

1. Please cooperate with driving the snowplow at low speed.
   Before the snow that has accumulated on the road surface is trampled and hardened, a combination of 3 snow removal trucks and 1 sign truck will remove the snow at a speed of 50 km/h or less.
   Slow down, keep enough distance between vehicles, and follow the snow removal vehicle.

2. Please be careful when overtaking antifreeze sprayers.
   If the road surface is expected to freeze, spray antifreeze in advance.
   When passing a work vehicle that is spraying, please be careful as the antifreeze may get on the vehicle.

   

3. Even if the weather improves, depending on the road surface conditions, we may carry out work such as snow removal, anti-freezing agent spraying, and road shoulder snow removal.
