Commentary by Professor Ryusuke Ito (Summary)

The epidemic of the new coronavirus continues, and travel and travel are restricted, but even so, nearly 600 entries were received, and the work level was comparable to or higher than usual.
"Landscape with a Expressway" category's highest award, "The earth, the sky, the sea, and us who live there" is "one day" of the light shining through the clouds and the shadow falling on the earth including the Expressway. "A certain time", the transition that is never the same is firmly established in the work. You will notice the existence and meaning of the Expressway as a line that supports human activities, which is stretched in the large-scale nature of Hokkaido.
As usual, high-quality masterpieces were sent to the "Four Seasons of Hokkaido" category. This contest started with a wide open door, from casual snapshots of travel to works of art, but I feel that it is now becoming established as an event that appeals to Hokkaido's nature and tourism resources at an extraordinary level. The highest award, "Mt. Yotei in the midwinter," is a powerful work that conveys a tense atmosphere. The perspective that is created by the perfect balance of the direction of the snow and ice skin in the foreground, the direction of the wind pattern, the angle of the slope of the background, the direction of the clouds, etc. is the color.
In 2022, movement between regions is expected to be eased. I hope that in the next contest, I will be able to meet works that capture the joy of living through the journey in the finder with a fresh look.

-About the work that won the highest award in the Expressway category-

  • Shooting time October 2021
  • Shooting location Around Date City
  • Comment from photographer Keiichi Noro
It is said that the autumn sky is changeable, but it is really interesting to shoot this season when the rays of light overflowing from the dramatic clouds, falling and sunny, and then falling and sunny repeatedly. The still-remaining autumn leaves, the setting sun reflected in the sea, the people who live there, and the bridge built to blend in with nature were very impressive, beautiful and memorable sights.
