Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway has been experiencing severe congestion due to concentrated traffic at certain times on weekends and holidays, so since July 22, 2023, a social experiment has been conducted on ETC time-based pricing, which varies discount rates during certain times of the day.
The "2nd Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway Traffic Smoothening Measures Study Group (chairman: Chief of the Road Planning Division, Land Development Department, Chiba Prefecture)" was held on January 15 2024 Based on the analysis results that showed that the social experiment would be effective in easing congestion, etc., and a policy was presented to make adjustments toward continuing the ongoing social experiment, we would like to announce that we have decided to continue the social experiment until 2024 *.
- The continuation of this social experiment will be implemented upon the passage of the national budget 2024.
On March 28 2024, the national budget for 2024 was enacted. (Addendum)
