Simultaneous announcement by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
Regarding free Expressway measures for evacuees from the restricted areas due to the nuclear accident, we will shift to renewal cards from November 1, 2023 in order to optimize the system. From April 5, 2023, each municipality will start accepting renewal cards in sequence.
In addition, for those who had an address in some areas at the time of the disaster, from November 1, 2023, the free travel will be limited to the section where you apply for renewal.
On January 31, 2023, as shown in Attachment 1 [PDF: 229KB], the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism issued a press release regarding the implementation policy for system optimization measures. We will let you know as soon as the details of the procedures have been decided.
In the future, we will send card update application forms to current card holders. Applications for renewal cards will be accepted sequentially from April 5, 2023 at the reception desks of each municipality listed in Attachment 2 [PDF: 294KB]. After applying, we will issue a card after confirming the purpose of use, etc. in each municipality.
You can use your current card until October 31, 2023, but from November 1, 2023, you will be transferred to an updated card.
Please note that for those who had an address in some areas at the time of the disaster, from the same day, they will be eligible for free driving only for the section that they will be asked to apply for when renewing.
