2 Application of ETC holiday discount

During the Bon Festival, ETC holiday discounts (local areas) of 3 discounts will be applied on Thursday, August 9, 10th (Fri), 18th (Sat), and 19th (Sun). 11th (Sat) and 12th (Sun) are not applicable Please be careful. For more information Attachment 2 [PDF: 329KB] please look at.

3 Efforts to counter congestion

Based on the current traffic congestion forecast and the traffic congestion period until now (year-end and New Year holidays, Obon, Golden Week, etc.), we will implement the following efforts during the period when we predict particularly heavy congestion. ( Attachment 3 [PDF: 345KB] )

  • Initiatives in the main line
-In-bound rear-end collision Beware of speed decrease caution, traffic jam end in slope, etc.
  • Efforts at rest facilities
・ Arrangement of parking lot organizers ・ Securing large vehicle parking spaces ・ Installation of temporary toilets, etc.
  • Expressway information of packed "Drive Plaza (DraPla)" ( Attachment 4 [PDF: 844KB] )
NEXCO EAST "is to provide DraPla In", Expressway other provision of real-time road traffic conditions and congestion prediction information, Expressway offers a search service of the required time taking into account the fees and congestion prediction.
You can view it from your computer, smartphone or tablet. Please use all means.

  • Congestion forecast guide / congestion forecast & outing guide
We are distributing traffic jam guidance guides that contain predictions of congestion in the NEXCO EAST pipe and the central Japan pipe (Chubu district) in the service area / parking area. In addition, please use the site "Congestion forecast & Odekake guide" which the traffic jam predictors of each branch publishes the traffic jam forecast and the video which explains the traffic jam avoidance point by all means.

4 Requests for alleviating traffic congestion

A little effort from customers will help alleviate traffic congestion. Thank you for your cooperation.

  1. In-bound attention to the rate of decrease in the slope
In-bound in a place that is alerting the slowdown, such as slope, for your cooperation to speed recovery!
  2. Do not reduce the distance between vehicles too much
Ensure sufficient inter-vehicle distance so that you do not press the brakes while driving!
  3. Do not change lanes
Excessive lane changes during traffic jams will worsen traffic congestion!

Topics 1 Effect of ETC Holiday Discount Change-Example of Tohoku Expressway (Kanto)-

  • In order to disperse traffic volume, this year's Bon Festival will change the ETC holiday discount from 11th (Sat./holiday) and 12th (Sun) of August to 9th (Thu) and 10th (Fri). I will. Thank you for your cooperation on the 9th (Thursday) and 10th (Friday) to alleviate the traffic congestion.
  • On the 11th (Saturday / holiday), when traffic congestion is expected to peak, we predict traffic congestion of up to 35km and 25km on the Tohoku Expressway. On the other hand, we predict traffic congestion of up to 15km on 9th (Thursday) and 10th (Friday), but compared to 11th (Saturday / Holiday), the traffic congestion will be shorter and the price will be better. Please consider changing the usage date.

  • Comparing the congestion forecast before and after the change of ETC holiday fare discount on Saturday and public holidays for Tohoku Expressway, the discount is not applied after the change, but the total maximum congestion length is reduced by about 20% at the peak The time required * is expected to decrease by about 10%. We would appreciate your understanding and cooperation even for customers who have difficulty changing the usage date.

Topics 2 CA Congestion at Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway

Tokyo Wan Aqua-Line Expressway, the traffic volume increases year by year due to the rate discount for ETC vehicles (from August 2009) and the opening of large commercial facilities (from April 2012), and it is constant on weekends. There is a traffic jam. Among them, toward the Kawasaki area from Kisarazu In-bound aqua tunnel of the line is In-bound speed is reduced in less notice from the fact that is a hill, has led to the occurrence of congestion. In such areas, we have installed pacemaker lights on the walls to prevent speed reduction.

As a result, 2016 is the traffic jam from the previous year were down, 2017 has been an increase in the traffic jam from the previous year because it is followed by an increase in traffic volume, even in this year's Obon period, In-bound in line 8 It is predicted that a long traffic jam of about 15km will occur on Friday, October 10th and Tuesday, March 13th.

We know that it took about 40 minutes more on the peak traffic day of Obon last year than when there was no traffic. Please cooperate when avoiding traffic during the time when traffic congestion is predicted (In-bound lines are from around 15:00 to 20:00).

Also, since December of last year, we have been conducting traffic congestion prediction "AI traffic congestion prediction" utilizing NTT DoCoMo's AI technology. Since forecasts are based on the number of people on the day, it is possible to make highly accurate forecasts that take into account the effects of weather and events. Please use it when you go to Boso Peninsula by Aqua Line.

Topics 3 Comparison of time required for route selection
~ Analysis result by ETC2.0 probe data ~

  • Due to the development of Expressway, multiple routes can be selected even at the same starting and arriving points.
  • Using the section from the Takasaki IC area to the Kawaguchi JCT area as an example, we analyzed the average time required for the customer's route selection last year using ETC2.0 probe data.
  • As a result, due to traffic congestion on the Kan-Etsu Expressway, There was a time zone where the time required for the route via the northern Kanto Expressway, which had a long mileage, was about 30 minutes shorter.
  • Please check the latest traffic condition from the information board on the expressway, the wide area information monitor of the resting facilities such as the service area, "Dora Pura ※ 1" provided by NEXCO EAST etc. Please select the route. Also, please leave your departure with time to exploit forecast traffic congestion.

* 1 For details Attachment 3 [PDF: 345KB] Please refer to.
