NEXCO EAST Kanto Regional Head Office (Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture) conducted a winter tire installation survey on Expressway with the aim of promoting early replacement with winter tires and raising awareness of safe driving on snowy roads. We conducted the test on Sunday, December 17th and Wednesday, December 20th, 2017.
1 Results of winter tire installation survey (number of surveys: 2,578 in total)
The installation rate of winter tires was 52.4% (small size 38.6%, large size 84.0%) on the Tokyo metropolitan area side, and 92.5% (small size 90.0%, large size 99.4%) in areas near snowfall areas. If you plan to use the Tohoku or Niigata regions from the Tokyo metropolitan area, please check the snowfall forecast, etc. Please wear early winter equipment.
On snowy and frozen roads, summer tires will cause more accidents than winter tires. In particular, customers who are heading to the snowfall area, such as returning to their hometown during the year-end and New Year holidays, may be stuck on the Expressway for a long time due to sudden snowfall or accidents due to slips. As a result, not only yourself but other customers will be greatly affected.
Running with summer tires on snowy or frozen roads is extremely dangerous, so please change to winter tires early and drive safely.
